Student Learner Outcomes

Pine Technical and Community College is committed to preparing students for a changing, diverse, and global society. To affirm that commitment, PTCC provides teaching and learning opportunities in a broad-based foundation of general knowledge and skills. Through that core of general knowledge and skills, students will gain experience and development in the following areas:

Computer, Informational and Technical Literacy  

  1. Use of program-specific technical or computer knowledge to accomplish practical and job-related tasks
  2. Determine when there is a need for information, and identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information for the issue or problem at hand
  3. Develop adequate library and information skills to assist in realizing the other student learner outcomes and in achieving a foundation for life-long learning

Communication

  1. Demonstrate appropriate ability to interact collaboratively to complete technical or job tasks
  2. Describe how human diversity affects communication
  3. Deliver a clear, well-organized verbal presentation
  4. Compose a clear, well-organized document that is professional in appearance and content

Critical Thinking 

  1. Explore possible assumptions, interpretations or perspectives related to solving a problem or technical challenge
  2. Gather pertinent factual information and apply it to a given problem
  3. Analyze the logical connections among the facts, goals, and implicit assumptions relevant to the situation
  4. Articulate the values affecting decisions, interpretations, and analysis  made by ourselves and others

Self-development 

  1. Set professional goals and develop strategies to reach them.
  2. Set goals for personal well being (physical, emotional, and intellectual) and develop strategies to reach them.
  3. Identify the role of lifelong learning in sub-outcomes “1” and “2”.

Global Issues 

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of global issues and an ability to develop an informed opinion and response to these issues.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of our local and regional communities, and the way they both affect and are affected by global issues.
