Welcome to PTCC! Although concurrent enrollment courses are held at your high school, PTCC wants you to know that you are an official PTCC student. That means that you have access to all of the student activities, academic resources, and professional staff that are a part of any college experience, and as equally important, you will be held to the same academic standards as on-campus students. 

Getting started 

1. Determine if enrolling in concurrent enrollment is the right choice for you 
   Pine has created a concurrent enrollment orientation video for students interested in taking concurrent enrollment courses. This orientation video will provide an overview of concurrent enrollment program, discuss what it takes to be a successful college student, review eligibility requirements, FERPA information, and much more. The intended outcome of these sessions is to provide students and their parents/guardians with the information that they need to make an informed choice regarding participating in college courses in high school. 
   
   
2. Work with your high school counselor to determine if you meet concurrent enrollment eligibility requirements
   To participate in concurrent enrollment courses, students must meet both PSEO eligibility requirements and specific course placement requirements. Students who do not meet PSEO eligibility requirements may submit an appeal. 
   
   
3. Complete the online application to PTCC 
   All concurrent enrollment students must first apply to the college. Refer to the step-by-step application guide for assistance.  
   
   
4. Submit qualifying assessment scores ( ACT, MCA, SAT) or take the NEXT Generation Accuplacer assessment. 
   Most concurrent enrollment courses require that students meet specific assessment scores in order to register for the course. See the "Common Concurrent Enroolment Courses" document linked below for specific course placement information. 
   
   
5. Review the concurrent enrollment student handbook 
   The concurrent enrollment handbook provides students with all of the information they need to make an informed choice about participating in PTCC’s concurrent enrollment program.  
   
   
6. Register for classes 
   Course registration happens within the first five days of the concurrent enrollment course. Students should refer to the Concurrent Enrollment Handbook for specific course registration, add, drop, and withdraw deadlines.
    
7. Concurrent enrollment student resources 
   PTCC is dedicated to your success. We provide personalized student support services to assist you with everything from academic planning and career development to student services. We provide resources that will help you choose the right courses, whether you’re looking to expand your opportunities through career training, complete your degree, or transfer to another college or university. All services are free and open to all Concurrent Enrollment students.
    
8. Important notes for parents/guardians – student privacy 
   The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA), Minnesota Statute (Chapter 13) are federal and state laws that provide for the disclosure and privacy of student educational records. Under FERPA, once a student turns 18 or enrolls at a postsecondary institution, any parental rights to information transfer to the student. That means that PTCC is not able to disclose course registration or grade information to parents without the student’s written consent. 
   
   

Concurrent enrollment eligibility requirements

• 12th grade students: class rank in the upper one-half of their class or a score at or above the 50th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, or provide documentation that verifies the student meets course placement requirements, such as assessment score and/or high school grade point average
• 11^th grade students: class rank in the upper one-third of their class or a score at or above the 70th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, or provide documentation that verifies the student meets course placement requirements, such as assessment score and/or high school grade point average
• For 9^th and 10^th grade students: recommendation from a designated high school official, a high school grade point average of 3.0 and documentation that verifies the student meets course placement requirements, such as assessment score and/or high school grade point average.
